One Lap of America 2005

What is One Lap of America? The most 'grueling motorsports fun' you can have in a week. For the 14th straight year our team entered One Lap to help raise funds for the Rochester Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home away from home for families with children undergoing major medical procedures.

Gault Autosport BMW of Endicott, NY provided a 2005 BMW M3 for our use in the event. We picked SMG (sequential manual shift) to get the impressive 'quick shift anywhere' capability on the unfamiliar racetracks. Car prep is important to success at One Lap, and BMP design and Supersprint North America have provided much support and knowledge in preparing our BMW One Lap entries over the years. The stock, heavy exhaust system was replaced with a ultra lightweight Supersprint stainless steel 'race system' that sounded incredible at the tracks but was still quiet enough for sleeping in the back seat. H&R adjustable sway bars combined with a Bridgestone / Firestone Praxis air suspension gave us a suspension that was comfortable on the highway but provided race car handling when needed at the tracks. We had no problems on our 3600 mile journey through 12 states, and the M3 performed flawlessly on the 20 competition time trails that included skid pads, drag strips, an oval, and 7 different race tracks. One Lap rewards horsepower and over 40 cars on drag strip bested our M3. However, BMW handling allowed us to make up a lot of time on the road courses, and we finished as the top placing BMW, 11th overall, 2nd in Sports GT-1 small bore class.
