Down Pipe
The turbo down pipe is manufactured from 304 stainless steel using all mandrel bent tubing and each pipe is 65mm in diameter resulting in ultra low backpressure, assuring instant turbo spool up for maximum torques and horsepower gains. The results of installing a complete turbo to tail pipe Supersprint system are a phenomenal 26 hp with a torque gain over 20 lb/ft. The stock down pipes cause a major restriction in the exhaust flow. BMW's solution to deal with the limited space in the engine compartment is to crush the turbo outlet tubes to reduce the size of the tubing. Doing this created undesirable backpressure. For emission purposes the factory also incorporated built-in pre-cats directly after the turbo outlet ports. This make the exhaust gas backpressure rise to extremely high levels at all rpm and engine loads. This design retains excessive heat in the engine and affects performance in a negative way. On the contrary, the design of the Supersprint down pipes takes advantage of even the smallest space available and frees the exhaust gas flow dramatically. The SS pipe cross section (no crushed pipe) remains constant all along the down pipes and the pre-cats are totally eliminated. This product is legal only for racing vehicles that may never be used upon a highway and is not applicable or intended for street or highway use.

Metallic Cats
After the down pipes' outlet flanges, the cross section shrinks down from 65mm to 60mm, (still larger than the factory 57mm tubing size) and it is maintained constant all the way to the tail tips. Once again there are no crushed sections in the tubing as with the factory system for clearance. In place of the factory quad cat design, Supersprint uses 2 high volume / high flow 100 cpsi metallic race cats. These are placed further away from the engine for the lowest restriction and the best results. This product is legal only for racing vehicles that may never be used upon a highway and is not applicable or intended for street or highway use.

Front Connecting Pipes (Replaces Cats)
These are alternative pipes for the metallic race cats above. After the turbo down pipe outlet flanges, the cross section shrinks down from 65mm to 60mm, (still larger than the factory 57mm tubing size) and it is maintained constant all the way to the tail tips. Once again there are no crushed sections in the tubing as with the factory system for clearance. In place of the factory quad cat design Supersprint has designed 2 straight pipes for race track or export purposes only. This product is legal only for racing vehicles that may never be used upon a highway and is not applicable or intended for street or highway use.

X Pipes
The stock mid pipe / resonator has numerous crushed pipe sections for added body clearance. The result is that the flow rate is negatively influenced by the erratic diameter changes in the tubing. This is very similar to using non-mandrel bent tubing. The continual diameter variation in tubing creates restriction and return backpressure pulses that reduce the desired exhaust velocity to the tail pipe. Supersprint designed their mid pipes with a real X section for perfect exhaust flow balance and without the need for any crushed tubing sections for extra clearance, although adequate clearance is maintained throughout the system.

Rear Mufflers
The Supersprint rear mufflers are of the performance proven flow through resonated design, rather than the baffled chamber design used by the factory and many other manufactures. The internal tubing diameter optimizes performance while the long strand rock wool sound deadening material provides the mature tone that Supersprint is so well know for. Tubing diameter is increased from the factory 57mm to 60mm for additional backpressure reduction. The factory one-piece muffler system has a complex design, which includes a built in flapper valve on one side of the system that has the sole purpose to alter the sound note at certain pre-set rpm levels. This design reduces performance at low RPM. Supersprint rear mufflers alone increase the torque and max hp by a significant amount, especially at low rpm. The results are a mature aggressive sound free of droning, even at low rpm and high loads. The single tip 100mm round system is a direct bolt on requiring no rear valance modifications. The dual tip 80mm round system will requiring slight rear valance modifications to accommodate the twin tips. Performed carefully with a rotor dremel tool this would require no repainting or bodywork.
